With active support from the Dutch government, many local governmental authorities have initiated Cradle to Cradle projects. For example Venlo, a city of the Limburg province, made Cradle to Cradle the theme for the 2012 Floriade Flower Expo. There are also many other significant projects in Venlo, including Venlo’s new city hall project and the Cradle to Cradle Expo Lab project. All those projects are intended to make Venlo the world’s first Cradle to Cradle city.
Venlo’s Cradle to Cradle development team spreads the Cradle to Cradle message to the residents through public awareness campaigns and advertising, and has established Cradle to Cradle education programs in the University of Twente, the Fontys University of Applied Sciences, and the Maastricht University using government funding. Through a variety of projects, Venlo provides incentives for enterprises to adopt cradle to cradle principles and to form Cradle to Cradle implementation networks, particularly in the fields of agriculture, technology, architecture, transportation and product design.
