“Small is Beautiful”, an idea by German economist, E.F. Schumacher, “small is beautiful” originally described a reaction to large corporations in a post-WWII world and how it can overwhelm human community. We agree but also take it to further portray the desire for beneficial carbon footprints that comes from learning to live within a world with limited resources. What is ‘enough’? How much consumption is enough to satisfy your lodging needs? We question the hotel room typology and push the barrier of the definition of a modern hotel guestroom. We understand defining enough space is culture-based and is different for every individual. We hope you find our creation both satisfying and inspiring, but we sincerely apologize if it leaves you wanting more.

For the Orange Concept Hotel, we retained consulting through the Enviromental Protection Agency (EPEA), which fortunate for us, has operated an office in Taipei since 2010. But even earlier, Michael Braungart, co-founder of the Cradle to Cradle concept, has had close relations with Taiwan’s EPA since 2005. EPEA and Michael Braungart helped us to rethink all the materials we use in our hotel to develop towards a more eco-conscious business and hotel.

Forte Hotels has joined the Taiwan Cradle to Cradle Alliance in 2012 to state their desire to be part of a movement to increase awareness of the Cradle to Cradle concept in our business practice as well as in our community.

In 2007, Taiwan’s Howard Plaza Hotel Group spun off the Orange Hotel brand to service the young and budget-conscious traveller. “Pure & Simple” was how we described our first five hotels in Taipei, Taichung, Kaoshiung: select-service hotels with quality furnishings, professional service, and a good city location.

The Orange Concept Hotel experiments and incorporates new ideas such as eco-consciousness, community outreach, and the “small is beautiful” lifestyle.
