NASA's new Sustainability Base - one of the most ecologically advanced buildings on the planet - was unveiled Friday in Mountain View, CA., with seven Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM products as a part of its design.

NASA Ames Sustainabilty Base, the new 50,000-square-foot facility at Ames Research Center called the "greenest federal building in America", features exterior and interior Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM products from five different companies.

Named after the Apollo 11's "Tranquility Base," (the first manned spaceflight to the moon) the Sustainabilty Base uses NASA innovations originally engineered for space travel and exploration. The lunar-shaped facility designed by architects William McDonough + Partners is net energy positive with a photosynethic roof, a high performance building envelope, and a geothermal heat exchange.

Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM products specified to help achieve energy efficiency with an innovative, collaborative workspace include Silver and Gold CertifiedCM durable surfaces, louvers, light shelves, curtain walls, furniture, and window shades, including:

The Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM program evaluates products along five key sectors: material health, water stewardship, energy use, material reutilization, and social fairness.
