Since 2006 the biennal WERKBUND LABEL is honouring exceptional projects, initiatives, and enterprises, which with their outstanding, innovative, pioneering work create social and political role models as well as utilize eco-friendly technologies and energies and encourage civic and social change.
Among nine projects the Cradle to Cradle concept, developed by Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart, has been awarded with the WERKBUND LABEL on Sept, 14th 2012 for the exciting design of two material cycles in which waste no longer exists.

The German Work Federation (Deutscher Werkbund)
The German Work Federation (Deutscher Werkbund) was founded in 1907 and is an association of artists, architects, designers, and industrialists. In the 1920ies it played an important role particularly in the later creation of the Bauhaus school of design. Its initial purpose was to establish a partnership of product manufacturers with design professionals to improve the competitiveness of German companies in global markets.
Until today the Deutsche Werkbund stands for critical thoughts, innovative ideas, public engagement, social responsibility and creative quality and is trend-setter in the fields of architecture, city planning, design, ecology and education.
